Killing coreaudiod through the Terminal fixed my issue. When I unplug the input jack and re-plug in the headphones, sound comes through the headphones as usual.

I just have ordinary computer speakers hooked up to it by the usual speaker jack. Make sure "Built-in Output" is selected. Hope this helps, Tim. After I fished it out, it worked perfectly.
